My great uncle and aunt owned a property in Woodforde, South Australia (above Rostrevor College).  This property was a farm for growing violets. I am not certain, but it would seem feasible that violets grown there may have been used for the "violet days".  The family understands that disease struck the violets and they were replaced with almonds.  Some of the almond trees exist today.
