A devotional card, written by Queen Adelaide in 1841.

History

This is a sample of Queen Adelaide’s hand-writing, presented to the Art Gallery of South Australia in 1935 by Miss Blanche Perry-Jones. Marked ‘10/6’ in pencil on the back of the card.  Insured at the time for 10 pounds. The card was transferred to the History Trust of South Australia, now History SA, as part of the Historical Relics collection in 1984.

Significance

This devotional card is one of many items donated to the Historical Relics collection in 1935 as part of celebrations for the Silver Jubilee of George V. It reflects the British heritage of South Australia, and the attitudes of many South Australians at the time who felt a sense of belonging to the British Empire.

Description
